F.A.Q.

What is Hope’s style of worship music?

Great question!

While we enjoy and are inclusive of all music styles, our worship style would typically be referred to as ‘contemporary Christian’.  Our praise and worship song selection pulls from popular Christian music as well as from some of the old Psalms.

The Worship Teams are focused on leading the congregation to a Holy place of reflection and adoration of Christ.  Guitar, piano, bass guitar, violin, cello, saxophone, harmonica, vocal harmonies, and banjo have all been part of the landscape in worship at Hope.

What time do Sunday services start and end?

The Sunday Morning services start right around 10am and end between 11 and 11:30am.

What should I wear to a Sunday service?

Hope Community is truly a “come as you are” sort of community church.  Dress in an manner that is comfortable for you.

The ‘typical’ dress of our congregation ranges from blue jeans to slacks.  Many of our worship team musicians are often found wearing shorts!

Whatever you are wearing, we can’t wait to meet you!

What happens after the service?

After each service there will be tea and coffee served where there is plenty of opportunity to chat to people. This is a great time to just hang out and meet other people.

Do you take communion?

At least once a month we take communion together during the service.  This is where believers will take bread and wine together to celebrate the Lord Jesus Christ and what he’s done for us in his death and resurrection. All who want to follow the way of Jesus are invited to partake of communion.

What are your basic beliefs?

We believe that the Bible is authoritative and that it tells the story of God interacting with humankind in order to lead them to a better way in Him.  We believe Jesus Christ is God’s son and that He came to be with us, teach us, and then die and rise to new life.  We believe in Holy Spirit and that the Spirit is God’s power and presence in us.  We believe that Jesus will return one day and set all things right. In the meantime we are called to share Christ’s love to the world.

Will I fit in?

Our services are filled with people just like you.  We are a church of ordinary people who long to have deeper community and grow in faith and service.  We like a relaxed and casual atmosphere.  People come as they are.  No one really dresses up and people are friendly and welcoming.

Will my kids be well taken care of during the service?

We believe kids are the future and we love them dearly.  All our nursery and children’s ministry volunteers are required to give a background check from the RCMP and to take part in a training session about providing safe environments led by a professional counselor from our denomination.

How is the church governed?

We are led by an elected board of elders and deacons. These are men and women of deep faith and gifted to serve and lead the church.  The pastors are part of this leadership team.  We are also part of denominational structures of leadership.

What denomination are you part of?

We are part of the Christian Reformed Church.  This is a denomination that has its roots in the protestant reformation.  We believe in the centrality of the Bible, that all of life is part of faith, and that we are called to bring reformation and transformation to the world. We are part of a long history of people striving to serve God together and to bless others.
